Mildred Eloise Lowder Tennant

January 28, 1939 — December 5, 2022

Morganton, North Carolina

Mildred Eloise Lowder Tennant, 83, of Morganton, North Carolina, passed away Monday, December 5, 2022 at Grace Ridge Retirement Community.

She was born in Albemarle, North Carolina on January 28, 1939 to the late Charlie Ray Lowder and Mary Crump Lowder.

Mildred was a shining example of dedication and love. Growing up on a dairy in Norwood, she became the first speech therapist for McDowell County after graduating from Appalachian State University. While devoting her career to working with children in local schools, Mildred shared joyful moments bowling with friends, attending Nascar events, and camping at Myrtle Beach with her husband Richard and children Jan and Lynn.

After retirement, Mildred enjoyed life at Holden Beach with long walks on the seashore, birdwatching, and collecting shells. She had a green thumb with a collection of plants she nurtured year-round.  Mildred was a sports enthusiast, rarely missing an Atlanta Braves broadcast or watching her favorite Nascar driver.

While a resident at Grace Ridge, Mildred enjoyed art, crafts, music, and attending praise and worship services. She will be sorely missed by family and friends.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Douglas Tennant.

She is survived by her daughters, Jan Tennant Allison (Chris) and Lynn Tennant Bonilla; three grandchildren, Kristin Allison, Bryce Allison, and Braedon Allison; and two siblings, Tony Lowder (Debbie) and Carolyn Swicegood.
