Michael James “Moose” Marsh, a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away on August 15, 2025, at UNC Health Blue Ridge, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and dedication. Born on December 16, 1958, in Christian County, Illinois, Michael lived a full and meaningful life, marked by his commitment to both his family and his profession.
For over 40 years, Mike worked in the plywood industry, where he first served as a supervisor before transitioning into sales. His extensive experience and passion for the industry did not end with his retirement; he continued to mentor his former customers and colleagues, demonstrating a commitment to his profession and a desire to see others succeed.
Above all, Mike was known for his love of family. He cherished his wife, Tina Holtsclaw Marsh, with whom he shared 34 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they nurtured a close-knit family that included three sons, Chad Marsh and his wife Crystal, Chris Marsh and his wife ShiAnn, and Luke Marsh and his wife Danielle; a daughter Heather Buchanan and her husband Ricky; and a daughter Laurel Marsh and her husband Jon. Michael also took great pride in being a grandfather to an array of grandchildren, including Alex and his wife Mollie, Gabe, Jackson, Addy, Jake and his wife Sarah, Job, Jonas, Rowan, Wyatt, Gracie, Ava, Carson, Harper, Jaxon, and Maddox, as well as his two great-grandchildren, Walker and Judah.
Mike shared a special bond with his siblings: Tony Marsh, Billy Marsh and his wife Connie, Donna Marsh Barnes and her husband Art, Ricky Marsh and his wife Toni, and Randy Marsh and his wife Cyndi. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Burgess and Margie Ford Marsh; one sister Pat Piercy and husband Bunny.
Outside of work, Mike had a passion for life, enjoying the simple pleasures such as golfing with family and friends and relaxing on the porch while listening to gospel music. These hobbies brought him joy and allowed him to spend quality time with those he loved the most.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mike “Moose” Marsh will be remembered fondly for his warm spirit, unwavering support, and the love he shared with all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who carry forward the values and lessons he imparted throughout his life.
