Mary Jane Smith Walker, 84, of Old Fort passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, July 11, 2025 at Mission Hospital McDowell.
A native of McDowell County, she was born October 18, 1940 to the late Earl Smith and Blanche Robinson Smith.
Mary Jane always put others before herself and ensured no one went without. She loved her family, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a very special place in her heart. She was an excellent cook, and she once ran her own catering business. Mary Jane had a number of friends. She was faithful to attend the Old Fort Senior Center as long as her health allowed. Most of all, she was a Godly lady her whole life, and she was more than ready to meet the Lord who she faithfully served.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Walker, and three siblings, Frances Griffin, George Smith, and Tom Smith.
Survivors include her sons, Raymond Lawson (Melinda) and Dewey Ray Lawson (Mindy); three grandchildren, Travis Rice, Jessica Lynch, and Kasen Rose; five great-grandchildren, Mandy Dalton, Christian Hawotte, Dakota Hawotte, Jackson Brown, and Gracie Dalton; five siblings, Earl Smith, Margaret Smith, Nancy Smith, Johnny Smith, and Kathy Lamb (Mike); two step-children, Woodrow Walker and Margaret Stamey; and a special friend, Dewey Croom.
In accordance with her wishes, a private burial will be held.
