Marjorie Stroupe Loven

May 25, 1933 — February 17, 2024

Asheville

Marjorie Stroupe Loven "Granny" went home to Heaven on February 17th, 2024. She passed peacefully in her home of 62 years on Birchwood Lane. Margie was born on May 25th, 1933 in Asheville, North Carolina. She was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and called East Asheville and the Oteen Community home. In 1951 she graduated from Biltmore High School, where she was a basketball player and a cheerleader. After graduation she went to work for Southern Bell as a telephone operator. A few years later, she met Natt Taylor Loven, Jr “NT” and married him on May 26th, 1954. Soon after, she and NT welcomed a son, Ronnie, and then a daughter, Theresa, to whom she devoted her life to raising. Margie was a motherly figure to everyone she met. From the Parkway Forest neighborhood to the ballpark and everywhere in between, she loved, nurtured and took care of more kids than just her own. Margie eventually became “Granny” and spent a lot of time on the road traveling to and from Georgia. She never missed the big things and made the small things just as important too.

She loved the beach, working outside in her yard and watching college women’s basketball and softball. She loved her North Carolina Tar Heels and later in life became a Georgia Bulldog too. She loved being “Granny” to her granddaughter Haley and more recently, a great grandmother to Taylor and Cade. Proverbs 31 perfectly defines Margie. She was the perfect mix of all things good with a splash of sass. She was never afraid to speak her mind and would always tell the truth. She fiercely loved her family and friends.

Most importantly, Margie loved Jesus. She served at Oteen Baptist Church: teaching Sunday School, helping with VBS, and everything in between. She was an active member until her death.  She will forever be remembered by her kindness and the love she showed everyone she met. She was ready to meet Jesus and we have no doubt she was welcomed with open arms in a great homecoming with her family and friends who have gone on before her.

Margie is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Natt Taylor Loven, Jr.; parents Herman Wesley Stroupe and Minnie Marie Gray Stroupe; and siblings Edith Ensley, Wesley Stroupe, Doris Clayton, Hilda Austin Sorrells and Ann Coffey.

She is survived by her son Ronnie Loven and daughter Theresa Loven Huskins (Scott); her granddaughter Haley Huskins Howell (Trey); and her two great grandchildren Taylor Loven Howell and Cade Howell.

A funeral service will be conducted Friday, February 23rd at 12 noon at the Oteen Baptist Church. 37 Oteen Church Rd, Asheville, N.C. 28805. The family will receive friends from 11 until 12 at the church. A private burial will follow at Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to Oteen Baptist Church. 37 Oteen Church Rd. Asheville, N.C. 28805.
