Margaret Padgett Fox, 91, of Marion, departed peacefully to be with the Lord on March 10th, 2023. Born in Old Fort, NC on October 24, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Robert Leroy Padgett and Ella Mae McPeters Padgett. In addition to her parents, Margaret was also preceded in death by a brother, Albert Padgett, a sister, Betty Sowers, and former spouse, Burnette Fox.
Margaret loved the Lord with all of her heart. She was a faithful member of Rocky Pass Free Will Baptist Church for 65 years. She had been an active member of the ladies auxiliary and served as the church secretary and treasurer for 45 years. She kept this job that she loved until the time of her passing.

Margaret retired from Roses in 2002 as the store manager after 50 years of service to the Roses company. When she retired, she had been with the Marion Roses longer than anyone else in the company’s history. She enjoyed her work there and considered them her second family. She started working for Roses in 1951 when it was located on Main Street as a department manager. Then in 1952, she became a stockroom manager and an office assistant in 1958. She garnered the title of office manager in 1973 and was promoted to operations manager in 1976 when the store opened in the Lady Marian Plaza. In 1987, when the store opened in its present location, Margaret was promoted to senior assistant manager. In 1990, she took over as manager of the entire store and remained in that position until retiring in 2002. She would often say that she worked her way up and loved every minute of it.
After retiring from Roses she enjoyed visiting with shut-ins and those in nursing homes often teaching them their Sunday School lesson and having times of prayer and fellowship.
A loving mother, sister, and grandmother, Margaret is survived by one daughter, Renee Fox Hensley and husband, Kurt Hensley of Marion; one brother, Ronald Padgett and wife, Linda of Marion; two sisters Billie Sue Cline and husband, Wayne of Marion and Bertie Lou Kaylor and husband, Albert of Morganton; three sisters in law, Mary Padgett Hall of Boiling Springs, SC, Shirley Jimeson of Marion, and Nellie Dean Hunter Metts of Spartanburg, SC. She will be forever cherished and remembered by two grandchildren Rev. Luke Hensley and Emma Hensley of Lynchburg, Virginia. There are also several nieces, nephews and extended family members that will miss her very much.
There will be a visitation of friends on Saturday, March 18th, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Rocky Pass Free Will Baptist Church of Nebo, NC immediately followed by the funeral at 1:00 PM. Rev. Alan Sailors and Rev. Doug Carpenter will be officiating the service. Grandson, Rev. Luke Hensley and granddaughter, Emma Hensley will also be speaking. Burial will follow in Rocky Pass Free Will Baptist Church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Beam’s Funeral Home of Marion, NC.
