Marion

Lynda Ann Handy, known by friends and loved ones as “Mawmaw,” age 84, of Marion, NC unexpectedly passed away early Tuesday morning, October 14, 2025 in her home. She was born May 3, 1941 in Marion, North Carolina to the late Lyndon Wren Sisk and Anna Lou Sisk. She is preceded in death by her brother Jerry Sisk. Lynda is now reunited with her beloved husband of 55 years, Leland Ray Handy.

Lynda cherished her role as a wife, mother, and grandmother above all else. Her family was truly the center of her world. Whether it was cheering on her children for every achievement, or being there for every important milestone for her grandchildren, her endless love for the people in her life was felt by everyone. She was a friend to all and her home was open to everyone, especially during the holidays, filling the house with love, laughter, and her famous home-made cooking, especially her pumpkin rolls. She loved her fur-babies, great grand-pups, “deck” nights with loved ones, and any reason to celebrate. She truly believed life was best lived surrounded by family, friends, and plenty of card games to play.

Lynda Handy leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and togetherness. She is survived by her son Leland Ray Handy Jr. of Cooper City, FL. Richard Lyndon Handy, and wife Marianna, her daughter, Cheri Lynn Handy Rock, and husband Scott all of Marion, NC. Her seven grandchildren Leland B. Handy, Jesse L. Handy and Davin B. Handy of Cooper City, FL. Richard L Handy Jr, Kylie Handy, Shannon Rock Davidson, her husband Duncan and Skylar Rock, of Marion, NC. All will cherish their Mawmaw’s memories and traditions forever.

A gathering of friends will be held on Saturday October 18, 2025 from 10:00 – 12:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service in Marion NC. Following the gathering the family will have a private celebration of life at the Nebo First Baptist Church Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her husband Leland Ray Handy.
