Lorene "Tootsie" Beam Staton, passed away peacefully at her residence on January 13, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on November 4, 1934, in Mitchell County, she filled the lives of those around her with warmth and love.
Tootsie was known as a loving mother and grandmother, nurturing her family with unwavering devotion. She is survived by her daughter Shirley Cook and husband Jerry; daughter Deb Franklin and husband Doug; son Ken Staton and wife Barbara; nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Her legacy of love will continue through her children and their families.
Tootsie's passion for crafts, her remarkable culinary skills, and her joy in hosting family and friends were hallmarks of her vibrant personality. She relished spending time at the tradel ots. Known fondly by her nickname, "Tootsie," she will be remembered not only for her talents but also for the loving atmosphere she created for those fortunate enough to gather around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Reuben and Lillian Huskins Beam; her husband, Ronald Staton; her infant daughter, Dorothy Staton; her daughter, Kathy Stamey; and her son, Ronald Staton Jr. Though she is no longer with us, the impact Tootsie had on the lives of her loved ones will endure, leaving an indelible mark that will forever be cherished.
A visitation will be held in her honor at Mt. Calvary Free Will Baptist Church located at 86 Brushy Creek Road, Spruce Pine, NC 28777 on January 17, 2026, from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at the church. Reverends Tommy Thomas, Jim Shoupe and Ken Staton will officiate. Interment will follow at the Gouges Creek Baptist Church Cemetery at 86 Grassy Creek Road, Spruce Pine, NC.
