Linda Kay Carter Cable, 74, of Morganton and formerly of Old Fort, passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at her daughter’s residence.
She was born in McDowell County on October 30, 1951 to the late Dewey Carter and Opal Lawing Carter.
Linda was the true definition of a Proverbs 31 woman. She was loving, kind, compassionate, and she had a heart of gold. She loved the Lord and took comfort in His Word and prayer. Linda was very faithful to pray for her family and friends. Always thinking of others, she was a caregiver for countless family members during times of need. Linda loved flowers and will be remembered for her incredible green thumb. She would often say “take it day by day,” and she held true to this saying even during her recent illness. She will be deeply missed.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 56 years, Jimmy Ray Cable; two daughters, Linda Michelle Herman (Bruce) and Patricia Lee Cable (Anil); five grandsons, James, Jered, Joshua, Patrick, and Nathaniel; five great-grandchildren, Micah, Judah, Aiden, Layla, and Tanner; and three brothers, Norris Wayne Carter (Eva), Roger Lee Carter (Jean), and Kenneth Ray Carter (Elaine).
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 6, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Harmony Grove Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at noon with family members speaking. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Linda’s memory to the Black Mountain Home by visiting https://www.blackmountainhome.org/donate/memorials/
