Lewis "Mater" Rose

Lewis ‘Mater’ Rose, age 65, of Sullins Branch Road in Spruce Pine, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2026 surrounded by his loving family at the home of his honorary sister, Bobbi Jo Laws at her home at Byrd Branch Road in Burnsville. 

Born on February 17, 1961 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Edward and Gladys Jones Rose. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son; Lewis Edward Rose, Jr., his daughter; Brittany Michelle Rose, his sister; Deborah Thomas and a nephew; Simon Rose. 

Lewis was of the Baptist faith. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed family get-togethers on all occasions. He also loved and was an avid fisherman and took great pride in taking his daughter, Brittany on fishing trips. He was a carp tournament fisherman and had won numerous trophies. He was also a bow hunter and won trophies competing in bow shooting tournaments. Overall, Lewis was an outdoorsman at heart. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking. 

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of forty-two years; Sue Ann Whitfield Rose, his honorary sister; Bobbi Jo Laws, several other nieces and nephews.

 A funeral service for Lewis Rose will be on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Spruce Pine First Baptist Church with Rev’s Dean Honeycutt, Doug Yelton and Brian Griffith officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Spruce Pine First Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Sullins Branch Cemetery.
