Leona Smith

Leona Conner Smith, age 92, of Nebo, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2020 at Autumn Care of Marion.  A native of Jackson County, North Carolina, born on October 29, 1927, Leona was the daughter of the late John and Evia Reece Conner. 

In addition to her parents, Leona is preceded in death by one son, Mark Smith; one daughter, Brenda Smith; one granddaughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Lynn Smith and her unborn child Riley Quinn Smith; three brothers, Floyd, Thad and Clyde Conner; and one sister, Isabell Norris.

An avid gardener, Leona had a love for watching humming birds and cooking, but most of all, she loved her family.

Leona is survived by her husband of 72 years, JB Smith; five children, James Smith (Cindy), David Smith (Betty), Patricia Owenby (Jimmy), Linda Fowler (Steve), and Charles “Chuck” Smith (Kim); five siblings, Ella Mae May, Helen Inman, Lloyd Conner, Troy Conner and Raymond Conner; seventeen grandchildren, thirty-eight great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 19, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Glenwood Independent Baptist Church with Pastor T. Jay Addison and Pastor Larry Gentry officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
