Lee "Pete" Stillwell

Lee “Pete” Stillwell, age 84, passed away on January 29, 2024 at Autumn Care of Marion. He was the oldest of six kids, born November 2, 1939 to the late Bud and Hettie Waters Stillwell. His paternal grandparents were Marston and Minnie Stillwell, and his maternal grandparents were Hayes and Minnie Waters.

 

After graduating from Glen Alpine High, better known as Turkey Tail, in the Class of 1958, he chose to join the Air Force, proudly serving our country for four years. He then worked at Drexel Heritage Furniture where he retired in 1999 with 32 continuous years of service.

 

In 1964, he married Hanna McIntosh Stillwell, to whom he was married until the time of his death. He is also survived by two daughters, Laura (Steve) Mathis and Ann-Marie (Darren) Poteat; grandson, Ben Poteat whom he loved dearly; and a granddaughter, Stephanie “Stevie” Mathis. He is also survived by two brothers and their wives, Larry (Brenda) Stillwell and Rick (Pat) Stillwell; and a sister-in-law, Cecilia Stillwell. Also surviving are a special uncle, Hardy (Mary) Waters and aunts, Lois (Grover, Jr.) Holland, and Betty Poteet.

 

He was also preceded in death by brothers, Jerry (Mary) and Donald as well as a sister, Linda Duncan.

 

He was raised in Gibbs Chapel Wesleyan Church where he attended while in school. Later in life, he returned to church, calling Trinity Methodist Church his home church, where he will be buried.

 

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service.

 

The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Morrison officiating. Mr. Stillwell will lie in state for thirty minutes prior to the service.
