Lawrence "Junior" Weatherford, Jr.

Lawrence “Junior” Weatherford, Jr., 65, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. 

He was born in Latta, South Carolina, on June 21, 1959 to the late Lawrence Weatherford, Sr. and Mary Ellen McDowell Weatherford. He had been a resident of Crossnore for 16 years.

Junior grew up on a farm and later worked with other farmers throughout his life. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps and later with the Army National Guard. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren. Junior always had a good joke to share with others to make them laugh. He will be dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob J. Weatherford and Johnny L. Weatherford.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Chesser Weatherford; his children, Amanda Rhembrandt (Michael), Dessie Weatherford, and David Weatherford (Crystal); his grandchildren, Allyssa Weatherford, Jordan Tyndall, Chase Weatherford, and Timmy Weatherford; aunts, Irene White and Chirty Mae Weatherford; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sallie Chesser, Kathy Herring, Debra Godbolt (Jimmy), Judy Ward (Ray), and Jule Caulder; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Crossnore Meeting House.
