Laura Woody Hicks

Laura Woody Hicks, 88, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away Tuesday evening, June 28, 2022 at CarePartners Hospice Solace Center in Asheville.

She was born in Newport, Tennessee on October 17, 1933 to the late Patton Lee Woody and Vickie Williamson Woody.

Laura was a member of West Court Baptist Church. She worked in textiles most of her life. Following this, she was employed at the McDowell News. She was a talented seamstress and could make anything she wanted. She was a wonderful cook and loved her ice cream. A simple lady, Laura loved her family most of all.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Hicks; a son, Benny Hicks; and siblings, Herman Woody, Eugene Woody, Charlie Woody, Mack Woody, Ben Woody, Audrey Greene, and Alma Bland.

She is survived by her a son, Ransom Floyd Hicks (Peggy); her granddaughter, Kristi Lankford (Russell); three great grandchildren, Gage Parkins, Katie Parkins, and Abbie Lankford; one great great grandchild, Brynlee; and two siblings, Doris Crabtree and Bobby Woody.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 01, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park.
