Larry Steven “Steve” Owens, born on June 25, 1962, in McDowell County, passed away at his residence on August 31, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence touched the lives of many.
Steve was a devoted husband to Janet McMahan Owens, with whom he shared a loving marriage for 45 years. Together, they built a life rich in love and joy, surrounded by family and friends. Larry's greatest pride stemmed from his role as a father to Stephanie Long, Evelyn Dellinger and Kelsey and Michael Carr and Michelle who was a son at heart. He cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren Skylar Long, Gracelyn Dellinger, and Lawson Jack Dellinger, who brought him endless joy and happiness.
An enthusiastic pilot, Steve had a passion for flying that added adventure to his life. He also found great delight in feeding the wildlife around his home, embodying his love for nature. Steve was a committed member of the Drucilla Independent Church, and he engaged in mission work throughout Haiti, Mexico, and numerous trips to West Virginia, reflecting his faith in Christ and dedication to serving others.
Steve was one of five siblings, and he is survived by Johnny Owens, Bobby Owens, and Terry Owens, along with his brother-in-law Phillip McMahan and his wife Teresa. He also leaves behind wonderful sister-in-laws, Becky and Vondi, and a cherished family network including eight nephews and four nieces.
He was preceded in death by his sister Vickie Owens, as well as one niece and one nephew, who will be fondly remembered.
A graveside service to honor Steve's life and legacy will take place on September 4, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Drucilla Independent Fundamental Church, located at 106 Drucilla Church Rd, Nebo, NC 28761, with Reverend Dennis Hensley officiating.
Memorials may be made to Charity Mission Free Will Baptist Church at 141 Hensley Grove Rd. Nebo NC 28761.
