Kenny Mitchell

Mr. Kenny Mitchell, age 67, of Nebo, North Carolina, departed to be with the Lord peacefully on the night of Saturday, April 03, 2021 at his residence.  Kenny’s loved ones were by his side.  A lifelong resident of McDowell County, North Carolina, he was born on September 25, 1953 to the late Welding and Florence Barlowe Mitchell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Roger Mitchell.

A member of Victory Temple Full Gospel Church in Nebo, the impact of Kenny’s involvement in the Dysarstville Community is very well known and far-reaching.  He proudly served as a member of the Dysartsville Volunteer Fire Department, where he took great pride in serving the citizens of McDowell County, even at an early age.  He had served as Safety Officer and at one time as a Lieutenant.  Kenny loved going to Killough’s Music and Loan on weekends and sharing his singing abilities.  Most of all, it meant the world to Kenny to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memories are his beautiful and loving wife of 39 years, Carolyn Mitchell; one daughter, Sabrina Taylor (Brandon); one son, Terry Mitchell; and three precious grandchildren; Lakota Morrow, Andon Taylor and Hunter Taylor.  He is also survived by one brother, Jim Mitchell; one sister, Sandra Pearson; Mr. Doug Barlowe, who was like a brother; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends he had met along his journey.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 07, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Yancey Street Baptist Church, 302 East Yancey Street in Marion, with Pastor Pete McCombs officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., two hours prior to the service, at the church. Interment will follow the service at Victory Temple Full Gospel Church Cemetery. Members of the Dysartsville Volunteer Fire Department will serve as pallbearers.

Those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mr. Mitchell’s memory are asked to consider, Dysartsville Volunteer Fire Department, 9184 Highway 226 South, Nebo, North Carolina 28761.

Carolyn I don't know if you remember me, I worked at Sid's Market and I always enjoyed seeing you and Kenny come in the store. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. I feel your pain, I lost my husband on Feb. 26th, they've probably already met in Heaven, we'll be with them again one day. Praying for you.

Kenny was a good Christian man. We grew up as neighbors and went to the same church. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word for others. He helped anyone that he could. He will truly be missed. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers!

So very sorry and sadden to hear the passing of Kenny. As sixth graders at West Marion Elementary Kenny, Archie Duncan and I raised and lowered the flag each day. We were also in the scouts and graduated high school together. It was nice to see him at the MHS reunion in 2017.

Carolyn and family, I am so sorry to here of the loss of Kenny ! As a classmate of M. H. S. Of 1972 we were always delighted to have him in attendance at any event as he always came with a smile, added joy and spread kindness to all he met. I am just so sorry he never shared his musical talent with us, as we would loved to have had him sing for us. Please know your family will be in our prayers as you go thru this difficult time, but knowing his faith he will be celebrating and singing with his Lord!

I met Kenny at the gospel music Jam at Killough's several times during our visits to Marion. I was saddened to see of his early passing. He was a very joyful Christian and sang the songs with true faith. My prayers are with his family at this time. May you all find comfort in the fact of the Resurrection, knowing In Christ you will meet again for all eternity.
