Kenneth "Kenny" Wayne Thompson

Kenneth “Kenny” Wayne Thompson, 53, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Mission Hospital in Asheville.

A native of Marion, Kenny was born on April 13, 1969 to Waynon and Peggy Shelton Thompson.

Kenny was a manager for Tri County Oil in Marion. Kenny was a faithful Christian and a member of Restoration Church in Marion. Kenny was very athletic and was a lover and fan of all sports. He will be remembered as an excellent cook and for his love for fishing. Kenny was always looking for a good deal and always succeeded in finding one. His grandchildren were his world, and their Papa loved them dearly.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Sheldon and Lillian Shelton; paternal grandfather, Vance Thompson; and his sister, Sheena Thompson.

Along with his parents, he is survived by his wife, Karen Thompson; two sons, Joshua Thompson (Michelle) and Matthew Morgan (Hollie); four grandchildren, Micah, Ty, Ridge, and Bristol; two siblings, Jeffery Thompson (Taylor) and Jenny Ferguson; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Tabernacle, 905 East Court Street, Marion with Revs. Michael Goins, Darrin Gibby, and Brian Rose officiating. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.
