Joyce Ann McKinney, a beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully at her residence on December 7, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on December 22, 1956, in McDowell County, Joyce was a person of deep kindness and generosity, known for her unwavering support of others. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Joyce lived a life enriched by her passions and interests. She had a great appreciation for nature, often found hiking and camping, seeking solace and adventure in the great outdoors. Her love for water was evident as she reveled in the beauty of her cherished creek and the beach. An artist at heart, she expressed her creativity through stained glass and painting, leaving behind a legacy of beautiful works that reflect her vibrant spirit.
Joyce was not only artistic and adventurous; she was also compassionate and giving. She dedicated much of her time to helping those in need, often preparing and delivering food to support her neighbors. This selflessness extended to her family, as she devoted herself to nurturing and caring for her loved ones.
She is survived by her daughter Crystal McKinney Martin and husband Rossi, her sons Adam Elias McKinney and David McKinney and wife Brittany. Joyce is also remembered by her siblings: David McCormick and wife Ruby, Nadine Stroupe and husband Larry, Florine Holmes and husband Ronnie, Kathy Lonon, and Debbie Biggerstaff and husband Phillip. Additionally, she leaves behind her beloved sister-in-law Carolyn Fay, along with her cherished grandchildren Rylee Parsons, Fairahney McKinney, Enoch McKinney, Elias McKinney, and Laythan McKinney, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie "Spyder" McKinney Jr., her parents Donald and Beulah Bartlett McCormick, and her in-laws Bill and Joyce Hall McKinney.
A memorial service to honor Joyce's life and legacy will be held on December 12, 2025, at Hankins Baptist Church in Marion, North Carolina. The service will begin at 2:00 PM, with Reverends Danny White and Colby Davis officiating.
