John Michael Fussell

John Michael Fussell, age 72, of Coxes Creek Church Road in Marion, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at his home.

Born on November 19, 1953 at Fort Benning, GA, he was the son of the late Jarman Levine Fussell and Dorothy Davis Fussell who still survives. John had lived in McDowell for the past eleven years. Prior to living in McDowell County, he had lived in numerous areas of the United States from coast to coast.

John was a member of the Grassy Creek Baptist Church in Spruce Pine. He was a Bible Scholar, minister and loved talking about and sharing the Bible. He was also an avid history buff, loved politics and was a collector of sports collectibles and memorabilia. He was a baseball enthusiast and an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He loved spending time with his family, particularly his grandsons and his mother whom he made a point to talk to each week.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife; Becky Fussell of the home, his sons; Paul Fussell and wife, Jennifer of Atlanta, GA and Josh Fussell of Louisville, KY, his mother; Dorothy Fussell, his sister; Sharon Fussell and his grandsons; Jacob and Seth Fussell.

A celebration of life service will be on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Grassy Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Nathan Silver officiating. The family will meet and greet visitors from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Grassy Creek Baptist Church.
