John Ray Effler

John Ray Effler, 92, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away Friday, November 4, 2022 at CarePartners Hospice Solace Center.

John Ray was a native of McDowell County and was born on April 7, 1930 to the late John Henry Effler and Elizabeth Lizzie McMahan Effler. He is also preceded in death by his 12 siblings.

A member of Yancey Street Baptist Church, he loved the Lord and his family. John Ray was a proud veteran of the United States Army and will be remembered as a very humble man. He was an avid trader and an excellent fisherman. John Ray was well known for his fishing skills and held a state and world record.

He is survived by his daughter, Regina Hensley and husband, David; and his grandson, Wesley David Hensley and fiancé, Harlie Moses.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Yancey Street Baptist Church with Pastor Dean Owenby officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Murphy’s Chapel Cemetery.
