John “David” McCormick, 77, of Marion, went to be with the Lord early Thursday morning, May 7, 2026 at the CarePartners Hospice Solace Center.
He was born at home in Old Fort on January 24, 1949 to the late Don McCormick and Beulah Bartlett McCormick. He was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Doyle McCormick; a sister, Joyce Ann McKinney; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul C. Grindstaff and Lorene Jordan Grindstaff.
David was a proud Vietnam veteran of the United States Army, having served honorably in the 101st Airborne Division Screaming Eagles. He loved the Lord with all his heart. A devoted family man, David married Ruby Grindstaff on May 13, 1972 and was a wonderful husband. He loved his children and grandchildren tremendously. David enjoyed camping and all things outdoors, particularly playing horseshoes and water skiing. He was also a talented woodworker. He will be deeply missed.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ruby Grindstaff McCormick; three daughters, Dawn McCormick Hollifield (Roger), Gwen McCormick Blake (Chris), and Jennifer McCormick Proctor (Stephen); his grandchildren, Joshua Hollifield (Bethany), Johnathon “John” Blake (Amanda), Haley Drake (Kyle), Crystal Wilcox (Aaron), Taylor Blake, Justin Proctor, Trevor Proctor, and Christian Blake; his great-grandchildren, Jasper, Asher, and Parker Blake, Sylas and Rowen Blake, Nehemiah and Cora Ruth Hollifield, and Landon and Alison Wilcox; four sisters, Nadine Stroupe (Larry), Florine Holmes (Ronnie), Kathy McCormick, and Debbie Jean Biggerstaff (Phillip); a sister-in-law, Paula Elliott (Steve); a brother-in-law, Donnie Romine; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 11, 2026 from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Free Will Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the church and will be officiated by Revs. Joshua Hollifield and Rick Wood. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
