Joel Glenn Bounds

Joel Glenn Bounds, 64, formerly of Marion, passed away Friday, October 24, 2025 at the Cranberry House in Newland where he had been a resident for several years.

He was born in Lumberton, North Carolina on March 28, 1961 to the late Lonnie Drake Bounds and Reba Evelyn Fawscett Bounds.

Joel obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. He mostly worked in telecommunications but was also formerly employed with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. An avid tennis player, Joel had a passion for the sport and will be remembered for his great skills. He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors hunting with his son for deer and turkey. His greatest love was for his family. He especially looked forward to the Christmas season with his beloved family. He was a very determined man who could do anything he set his mind to. His memory will be a great blessing in the lives of all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lonnie D. Bounds, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel Williams Bounds; two children, Chris Bounds (Christina) and Susannah Freeman (Chris); five grandchildren, Matthew Freeman, Jayden Valencia, Justice Valencia, Eli Bounds, and Ellie Bounds; and his sister, Cathy Bounds Jones.

In accordance with his wishes, no services are planned.
