On Sunday, April 27, 2025, Joan Frisbee Rhom, age 75, of the Glenwood Community joined her beloved husband James Rowland Rhom, her mother, Marie Frady, her youngest sister Helen Hughes, and her lifelong friends and neighbors Gerald Porter and Jimmy Upton. She finally met her father, Jesse Frisbee, whom she had dreamed of her entire life.
With friends and family by her side she completed her journey on earth. But not before making a pitstop home, where she had built a wonderful life and raised her family. Joan had been ill for sometime and had longed to return to her Glenwood home. Despite impossible odds, her faith gave her the strength to hold out for one last birthday party, where she stole the show. God answered her prayers to make it home on Friday, where she enjoyed an early birthday celebration on Saturday, allowing her to visit with nearly 100 friends, one last time for the best birthday party that Joan said that she had ever had. Born in McDowell County, North Carolina on May 01, 1949, to the late Marie Frady and Jesse Frisbee, she is also preceded in death by her husband James Rhom and sister, Helen Hughes.
Joan was a loving mother and a precious friend. She loved her church family at Bethel Baptist and was part of organizing events for the senior citizens for many years. Joan enjoyed baking and decorating cookies, fishing, watching the Price is Right, sitting in her car listening to music, and most of all playing jokes on her friends. She is survived by two children Geneva Rhom and Tim Rhom (Amanda Thomason), three grandchildren Dylan Ray, Melissa Tompkins-Ray, and Sierra Ray, five siblings Edna Burnette, Tommy Frisbee, Ronnie Frady, Gail Hensley, and Joyce Frady. She also left behind some very special friends John Lutz, Sandra Pearson, Charlene Porter, Doris Pritchard, and Wanda Elliott.
Her memory will remain in the hearts of the numerous children who grew up sitting in her living room floor playing video games, watching wrestling, and calling her Mom.
At the request of the Rhom Family in Lieu of flowers, please consider sending clear window bird feeders or bird seed to be distributed to local nursing facilities for residents to enjoy.
