Joan Goings Grant

 

 

Joan Goings Grant, better known as Mamaw, age 66, of Nebo, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Duke University Hospital.

 

She was born in McDowell County on April 17, 1954 to the late Lawrence Elmer Goings and Lillie Mae Kirby Goings.

 

Joan enjoyed visiting the beach with her family. She ran a bingo parlor for over 30 years, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She just truly loved people.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny Goings and Lawrence C. Goings.

 

Survivors include her husband, Mickey Dee Brinkley; two children, Chris Grant and Mandy Grant; two stepchildren, Shane Brinkley and Shelby Martin; five grandchildren, Tristen (Kaitlyn), Kaylee, Lily, Randy, Bethany; three great grandchildren, Avacyn, Caden, and Dakota; one sister, Loretta Wilson; and all her fellow bingo players.

 

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Joan was like a mom to me growing up. I guess you could say she had lots of kids. Between Mandy and Chris's friends. Every summer there house was the place to be. And it was because Joan took us all in. One of my favorite time is when she took us to Florida to see a bingo friend.. so many time to list. This is a sad time. But I will hold on to my memories of Joan.
