Jennifer Cook Hamby

     Jennifer Leslie Cook Hamby, 42, of Marion, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2022 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, after a lifelong battle with cystic fibrosis.

     Jennifer was born in Morganton, NC on August 28, 1979, to Mary Katherine Greene and Lester Donald Cook. She was a store manager with Dollar General and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in North Cove. Jennifer enjoyed shopping at thrift stores, quilting, and making blankets and jewelry. She was a baseball mom and loved watching her son play. Jennifer was a friend to all and will be greatly missed.

     Jennifer was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Milas & Hazel Greene; and her paternal grandfather, George Lee Cook.

     Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Joe Hamby; her mother, Kathy Pool (Randy); her father, Lester Cook (Teresa); her son, Maverick Randolph; two brothers, William “Bill” Cook and Jason Cook (Alesha); her paternal grandmother, Jenniev Cook, all of Marion; three step sisters, Tyler Pender (Matt) of Foster City, CA, Krista Barbosa (Joau) of Asheville, and Rachael Hollifield (Travis) of Spruce Pine; a step brother, Chad Boyd of Marion; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  

     A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 22, 2022 at Faith Baptist Church in North Cove. Rev. Gary Greene and Rev. Bill Mitchell will officiate. The family will recieve friends from 2:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service, at the Church.
