Jeffrey David Sanders, a devoted father, brother, uncle, and lifelong resident of Old Fort, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at the age of 69.

Born on August 8, 1955, to Margaret Eller Sanders and Robert S. Sanders, Jeff grew up surrounded by the natural beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains—a landscape that would become one of his greatest loves. A true nature enthusiast, Jeff was a waterfall chaser in the truest sense. Over the years, he hiked, explored, and documented more than 100 waterfalls across Western North Carolina, finding peace and purpose in every roaring cascade and quiet forest path.

Jeff is survived by his beloved daughter McKenzie Paige Sanders Bas and her husband, M.J. Bas; his brother John Sanders and sister-in-law Lisa Sanders; and his cherished niece, Margaret Adele (Addy) Sanders.

Known for his kind heart, adventurous spirit, and deep connection to the land he called home, Jeff leaves behind a legacy of curiosity, reverence for the natural world, and enduring love for his family.

A private remembrance will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Jeff’s memory to Ebenezer Church in Old Fort.
