Jean Lowrance Rumfelt, 91, of Nebo, passed away peacefully at her home on the morning of Sunday, June 1, 2025 surrounded by her family.
Jean was born on September 17, 1933 to the late Clay Lowrance and Bessie Bailiff Lowrance. Her family was a large one who supported themselves by farming in the hills of Avery County.
For many years, Jean worked as a nurse where she cared for countless patients. She was an avid sports fan who was particularly fond of basketball. She was also a talented bowler. Jean enjoyed the simple pleasures of life such as watching television and observing the hummingbirds around her home. Her family was her greatest treasure, and spending time with them did her heart good. She was faithful to support her grandchildren in their sports and other activities. She will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ollis Harold Rumfelt; a grandson, Kenneth Edward Presnell; and all her siblings.
She is survived by two children, Kim Nichols (Robby) and Bruce Rumfelt (Kellie); three grandchildren, Christopher Presnell, Brandy Rodriguez, and Dale Hunt; and five great-grandchildren, Kennedy Grace Presnell, Cadence Adair Presnell, Kensleigh-Jean Adajah Presnell, Gavin Kessler, and Chancellor Kessler.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Chaplain Richard Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 5:00 p.m. prior to the service.
