JB Smith

Mr. JB Smith, age 90, of Nebo, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2020 at his residence.

He was born on January 13, 1930 in Young Harris, Georgia to the late Oliver William Smith and Evia Lee Presley Smith.

He worked for many years as a truck driver. A faithful Christian, he truly loved the Lord and served as a deacon at Glenwood Independent Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He was very talented with wood working, and he also enjoyed making bows and knives. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he will be missed by all.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 72 years, Leona Conner Smith, who passed away just 8 days prior; two children, Brenda Smith and Mark Smith; two siblings, JD Smith and Corabell Smith and one granddaughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Lynn Smith and her unborn child Riley Quinn Smith.

JB is survived by  five children, James Smith (Cindy), David Smith (Betty), Patricia Owenby (Jimmy), Linda Fowler (Steve), and Charles “Chuck” Smith (Kim); five siblings, Anna Rose Conner, Beatrice Frady, Peggy Sue Styles (Robert), Claude Smith (Fern), JC Smith (Judy); seventeen grandchildren, thirty-eight great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Glenwood Independent Baptist Church with Pastor T. Jay Addison and Pastor Larry Gentry officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
