Jay Steven “Steve” Webb, 77, of Marion, departed to be with the Lord on Friday, May 15, 2026 at Mission Hospital in Asheville.
He was born in Marion on July 10, 1948 to the late JC Webb and Retha Creson Webb. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Webb.
Steve was simple, authentic, and hardworking. He was a talented carpenter and worked as a contractor for a number of years before becoming employed with the McDowell County School System in the maintenance department. He was a longtime, cherished member of Greenlee Baptist Church where he worked selflessly and sacrificially around the church in whatever capacity he was needed in. He will be remembered for the Godly way he lived his life. Steve was an avid fisherman who thoroughly enjoyed time spent on the water. His love for his family, especially for his granddaughter, was unsurpassed.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 47 years, Deborah Fields Webb; step-son, Chris Mostiller; granddaughter, Kendall Worley (Grant); one sister, Laura Buchta; and his beloved canine companion, Penny.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 18, 2026 from 4:00 until 5:00 p.m. at Greenlee Baptist Church. A memorial service will follow at 5:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Jonathan Tipper officiating.
Flowers are accepted and appreciated; however, those wishing to make a memorial donation are asked to consider Greenlee Baptist Church, 5967 US 70 W, Old Fort, NC 28762 for the Building & Grounds Fund/Children’s Department to promote the growth in the knowledge of Jesus in young lives.
