Jason Brent Gilliam, 53, of Old Fort, passed away at home on Friday, February 20, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.

A native of McDowell County, he was born June 13, 1972 to Cynthia Gilliam Moore and the late Max R. Gilliam.

Jason was a wonderful musician, artist, writer, and carpenter bringing joy and inspiration to those around him. He enjoyed playing a variety of sports. Jason’s enthusiasm for sports, particularly for NC State, shaped many memorable moments and connections with friends and family.

Jason was a graduate of Warren Wilson College. One of his passions was travel. He cherished the experiences he gathered, particularly in his journeys to India and Jamaica, where he formed lasting memories. He had a profound love for the outdoors, finding solace in nature and adventure.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Christi Oates; mother, Cynthia Gilliam Moore (Ron); sister, Selina Gilliam Johnson (Tim); three nephews, Max Johnson (Madison), Kohen Johnson, and Vance Johnson; great-nephew, Shepherd Johnson; and a number of beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Beam Celebration Center.
