Janice Lynn Wheelon Cox

Janice Lynn Wheelon Cox, 74, of Old Fort, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at her residence.

She was born in Burke County on March 5, 1952 to the late Luther Clyde Wheelon and Crena Allison Wheelon.

Janice formerly worked at the McDowell Hospital where she worked in registration. A faithful Christian, she was a member of Ebenezer Christian Fellowship Church. Janice often read her Bible, and she loved to listen to gospel music. She enjoyed cross stitching, watching game shows, and playing games on her iPad. Her family came second only to her love for the Lord. Spending time with her grandchildren brought her great joy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Ronnie Dale Cox, Jr.; her sister, Jane Bishop and husband Ronnie; and twin grandsons, Christopher and Anthony Ramsey.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 49 years, Ronnie Dale Cox, Sr.; her daughter, Nicole Ramsey; five grandchildren, Stephanie Ramsey, Kellie Ramsey, Michael Ramsey, Justin Cox, and Kyle Wheelon; lifelong friends, Sheila and Carolyn; and many cousins. Janice is also survived by many co-workers and friends who called her Mama Janice as well as many of her grandchildren’s friends who lovingly knew her as Nana.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 5, 2026 from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. and will be officiated by Pastor Jacob Crowder.
