James Phillip McCall

Rev. James Phillip McCall, age 65, of Union Mills, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, November 20, 2020 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville.


He was born in Polk County on July 13, 1955 to the late Martha Garrett McCall and Billy Phillip McCall.


Rev. McCall had ministered for over 40 years and had pastored many local churches. He also served as a janitor and bus driver at Eastfield Global Magnet School and McDowell High School. He was very devoted in all he did, and he will be remembered for helping others. Rev. McCall truly loved his family, and he had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren.


In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife of 40 years, Susan Robinson McCall; his son, James Andrew McCall (Brandi); four grandchildren, Brandon McCall (Kolby), Daniel McCall, Elijah McCall, and Jazmine McCall; one great grandchild, Nail-eli Paris Faye McCall; and two sisters, Wanda Gorges (Dennis) and Sandra White (Bruce).


A memorial service to celebrate Rev. McCall’s life will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at the Pinnacle Christian Church on Pinnacle Church Road, Nebo, at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pinnacle Christian Church.

I worked with your father a couple summers at the high school doing painting in the mid 90s. He was truly the kindest and most encouraging man Ive ever known. Im blessed that I was able to get to know him. May God bless you and your family.

I begin school with Phillip at Mill Spring Elementary. Our parents worked together thru the years. We were bonded because we came from Pea Ridge Community. Prayers to Wanda and Sandra.

May you rest in peach with your Lord in Heaven. We have lost a son and a brother but know that Phillip is rejoicing in heaven with his Lord and our Mom. Phillip was very caring and giving to all. Our prayers are with family and friends. Love Always - Dad, Wanda, Dennis, Sandra and Bruce.

My dad was one in a million my number one and a man I could all ways count on and I know in my heart and soul that he is at peace and loves being with my grand mother, I know dad is not hurting any more and that alone brings me joy and comfort DAD I love you love your son Andy

Although you didn't know me, I have fond memories of Rev McCall at Dysartsville Baptist. He ministered to my dad and preached my father's funeral. So sorry for your loss.
