James Thurlo King, 69, of Nebo, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Autumn Care of Marion.
James was born on April 15, 1957, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to the late James Leland King and Masa Akutsu King. He was married to his wife of 38 years, Shirley “Sue” Lynne Burton King and was a member of Grace Community Church. James loved woodworking. For many years, he was the owner and operator of Heartwood Moulding & Flooring. James was a sports enthusiast and an avid golfer. He loved to travel many miles to play golf, but Marion Lake Club was considered his home away from home. He was a Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan and was an announcer for McDowell High School basketball for several years. James also had a deep appreciation for culinary arts and was a connoisseur of many different cultures of food. Most of all, James loved his family and will always be remembered for his contagious laugh.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a sister, Marie King.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sue King; four children, DeAnnedrea Negley (David), Landon King (Chloie), Kristen Moore (David), and John King; a sister, Mieko Akutsu (Gentry); a brother, Jerry King (Tammy); nine grandchildren; and four step grandchildren.
In accordance with James’ wishes, no services are scheduled.
