James Donald Jones, Sr.

James Donald Jones, Sr., passed away on May 23, 2025, in Marion, NC. Born on September 22, 1941, in McDowell County, he was a source of joy and laughter for many, known for his wonderful sense of humor and his signature style of western shirts and cowboy boots. He also loved guns and drinking sweet tea.

James was a devoted family man, cherished as a loving father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his son, Jimmy Jones; his daughter, Wendy Jones Huskins; and his two sons, Michael Jones and his wife Melissa, and Travis Jones and his wife Holly. In addition, he leaves behind his dear sister Frances Conner and another loving sister, Faye Conner.

James’ legacy lives on through his grandchildren: James Jones III, Katie Huskins, Kayla Ledford and her husband Alex, Alyssa Clark and her husband Josh, Brandon Jones, Brianna Hollifield and her husband Garrett, Kaytlin Thompson, Susan Jones, Christian Jones, and Kendall Jones, along with Kalei Parker. He was also a proud grandfather to thirteen great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy.

James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Blake Jones; his father, Lewis Jones; his mother, Margaret Huffman Jones; and his siblings: Doris Freshour, Ray Jones, Cotton Jones, Beulah Suttles, and Patricia Morgan.

James had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying activities like deer hunting and frog gigging. He also had a fascination with older cars and trucks, which added to his adventurous spirit. His zest for life and love for family and friends will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Visitation with family will be held at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Marion, NC, on May 25, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, where friends and loved ones will gather to celebrate the incredible life of James Donald Jones, Sr. Memorials may be made to Beam Funeral Service at 2170 Rutherford Rd. Marion NC 28752 to help with funeral expenses.
