James Reid Hollifield Sr.

Marion, North Carolina

James Reid Hollifield, Sr., 92, of Marion, passed away Thursday, October 28, 2021, at his residence.


James was born in McDowell County, NC, on April 24, 1929, to the late Weldon and Estelle Hollifield. He was married to his wife of 52 Years, Roxanne Hollifield. James worked for American Thread and later retired from H&B Lumber Company. He was a member of Turkey Cove Baptist Church and was a founding member and first Fire Chief of Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Department. James was a fan of the Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and growing flowers. Most of all, James was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Hollifield; and three sisters, Geneva Mason, Georgia Hall, and Eula Hoppes.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Roxanne Hollifield; six children, Barbara Gillespie and husband Mitch, James “Jimmy” Hollifield, Jr. and wife Gloria, Paul Jhant and wife Rowena, Robin Ballew and husband Dale, Mike Jhant and wife Denise, and Luanne Walker and husband Craig; two brothers, Donald Hollifield and wife Ellen and Jerald Hollifield; a sister, Sarah Margaret Odom; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, October 31, 2021, at the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. Rev. David Edwards and Rev. Jerry Lewis will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at the Turkey Cove Baptist Church Cemetery.
