James Anderson Gravley, III

     James Anderson Gravley, III, 73, of Drexel, passed away Monday, December 29, 2025, at UNC Health Blue Ridge.

     James was born in Wytheville, Virginia, on July 17, 1952, to the late James Anderson Gravley, Jr. and Emma Louise Fortune Gravley. He was married to Dorothy Louise Williford Gravley. James served his country proudly with the United States Army. He loved the ocean and lived in Key West for more than a decade. While living in Florida, he was a tugboat captain. Most of all, James loved his wife and family, unconditionally. He will always be loved and remembered.

     In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by several siblings.

     Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Dorothy Gravley; his sons, Edward Gravley & wife Hunter and James A. Gravley, IV; a sister, Priscilla Gravley; and two grandchildren.

     A memorial service will be held at a later date.
