Irene Worley Brown

Irene Worley Brown of Black Mountain, NC passed away January 10, 2024 at the age of 80, with her daughter by her side holding her hand, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law.  A native of Black Mountain, Irene was born August 29, 1943 to the late Lester Worley and Jeannie Harwood Worley.

Irene worked at Kearfott Guidance and Navigation for over 30 years.  In her early years Irene enjoyed her flowers and crocheting, but most of all spending time with her family.  Irene had a decline in health due to several illnesses over the last 30 years which limited her ability to enjoy the things she loved.  Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years who recently died November 17, 2023, two brothers, Bobby Worley and Ronnie Worley both of South Carolina.  She is survived by her daughter Angie Higgins and husband Doug Higgins of Burnsville; grandson Nathaniel Higgins; and great grandson Andy Higgins of Burnsville.  She also leaves behind her faithful little companion, her dog Biscuit, who was always at her side.

In staying with her wishes, Irene will be cremated with no public service.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to her daughter at 112 Destiny Way, Burnsville, NC 28714, to help with final expenses.  The family would like to thank Hospice of the Blue Ridge for the care given to Irene.
