Rev. Herman Eugene Buchanan

Rev. Herman Eugene Buchanan, 80, of Nebo, North Carolina, passed away Monday, February 14, 2022 at Willow Ridge in Rutherfordton.

He was born in McDowell County on May 25, 1941 to the late Clifton Enlow Buchanan and Anniemae Woody Buchanan.

Herman has a heart for service and served as the pastor of a church in Long Island, NY from 1991 to 1996. He had also served as pastor at Calvary Baptist Church and Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Marion. He also ministered in the men’s shelter as well. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Herman had a special place in his heart for children, and he drove a school bus for over 10 years. He was an easy-going man who loved his family.

He is also preceded in death by his wives, Maybelle Shelton Buchanan and Louvenia Buchanan; and a brother, Kenneth Buchanan.

He is survived by his daughter Angel Rich (Mike); four grandchildren, Michael Rich (Danielle), Jessica Duncan, Charlotte Rich, and Jacob Rich; seven great grandchildren, Coy Howard, Triton and Cerenity Duncan, and Aydan, Carleigh, Rylan, and Elijah Rich; and eight siblings, Emmett (Christine), Vernon (Wanda), Clifton (Cindy), Reva Kasten, Amie Lindner, Dora Faye Lewis, Lula Owens (Joe), and Donna Huffman (Danny); and a sister-in-law, Shirley Buchanan.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 18, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Cross Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Rev. Ryan Bennett and his brother, Clifton Buchanan officiating. Interment will follow at Shelton Family Cemetery in Burke County. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m.
