Gwyn Doyle Baker

Morganton– Gwyn Doyle Baker, age 63 entered into his eternal rest unexpectedly on Friday August 28, 2026 doing the work he cherished, surrounded by the beloved work family he treasured every day. He was born in Lenoir, North Carolina to the late Bill Baker and Shirley Powell (Baker).

In addition to his parents He is preceded in death by his loving brother Monty Baker. He is survived by his son Davey Baker and daughter -in-law Kristen Baker; 2 grandchildren Jesse Baker (15) and Makalee Baker (12); a loving sister Revonda Brown (Dale); 9 Nieces, Bethany Hadden (Chris); Mindy Black (Ryan); Angie Bauer; Monica Baker (Marcus DeBeve); Rachelle Loe (Stephen), Ashley Smith (Darren), Kali Brown, Hannah Watkins (David), Molly Hildebrand (Beau); 1 Nephew, Dakota Baker; 3 Great Nieces, Jayden Fox, Rylie Hadden and Karter Black; 10 Great Nephews, Carson Fox; Aries DeBreve; Elias DeBreve; Ryker Hadden; Riddick Hadden; Dustin Brown; Drew Black; Levi Smith, Micah Smith and Declan Hildebrand. He also had 1 Great-Great Nephew Roman Ostendorff.

Outside of work, Gwyn was most at home in the open air, whether he was tending to his landscaping or tinkering with mechanical projects in the yard. He had a natural artistic talent for drawing, but his greatest gift was bringing laughter into any room. Quick with a joke and full of playfulness, Gwyn adored being around children, who naturally gravitated toward his warm and joyful spirit.

These were not just hobbies to Gwyn but the very heart of who he was. He will always be remembered for the care he poured into the outdoors, his endless patience with mechanical projects, and his talent for capturing beauty on paper. Most of all, his legacy lives on in the endless laughter he shared, the jokes that brought people together, and the deep, unforgettable joy he brought to every child lucky enough to know him.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Gwyn at Berea Baptist Church, (1394 US Highway 70, Connelly Springs, NC 28612) on Tuesday September 8, 2026 with the receiving of friends beginning at 2:00 p.m. and the service immediately following at 3:00 p.m with Rev. Darren Smith Officiating.
