Gregory Neil Buchanan, age 49, went home to be with his Savior on Monday, May 25, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on February 4, 1977, he was the son of Avery Jr. and Barbara Buchanan. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara; his paternal grandparents, Avery and Mildred Buchanan; and his maternal grandparents, Charlie and Timia Hunsinger.
Greg was known for his kind heart, quiet spirit, and easygoing nature. He never met a stranger and quickly became friends with those around him. Some even say he had a mischievous side to him.
He enjoyed NASCAR racing, UNC basketball, Atlanta Braves baseball, classic cars, and camping with his family. Restoring classic cars with his dad was one of his favorite hobbies, and he especially treasured the simple moments spent relaxing with family around the camper.
Greg faithfully worked for Justice Well Drilling for more than 30 years. He took pride in his work, enjoyed being outdoors, and valued the friendships he made throughout the years.
Most importantly, Greg loved the Lord and his church. Raised in the church, he faithfully served as a deacon, assistant Sunday School Superintendent, and sound technician for many years. Whether in church or everyday life, Greg desired to serve the Lord faithfully. Even through surgeries, treatments, and many doctor visits, he remained strong in his faith, believing he was "A Winner Either Way."
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cheryl; his father, Avery Buchanan, Jr.; his sister, Karen Buchanan; his step grandchildren, Amanda Hester (Corbin) and Travis Seals; step great grandchildren Elijah and Declan; and numerous extended family members and friends.
A graveside service will be held at Fairview Free Will Baptist Church, at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 30, 2026, with Brothers Donald White, Brandon Smith, and Mark Forbes officiating.
