Gloria Jean Turner Gunter

April 19, 1946 — July 23, 2025

Nebo

On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Gloria Jean Turner Gunter, 79, of Nebo, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Gloria was born in McDowell County on April 19, 1946 and was the loving daughter of Violet Allison Moore and Bennie Moore who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of the 1964 class of Old Fort High School and was co-captain of the varsity girls’ basketball team. She was a faithful member of Rocky Pass Free Will Baptist Church where she served many years as a Sunday School teacher and was known as Ms. Gloria to many children over the years. She retired as the branch manager at Vision Financial Credit Union of Marion.

Gloria was known for always staying busy. She found great joy in cooking & baking (especially for others), sewing, traveling, camping, shopping, and spending time with those she loved. She was thoughtful, compassionate, kind, and selfless, always putting others before herself, especially if it came to her girls or grandchildren. Family was important to her and her love for them was evident in everything she did.

Gloria was a loving wife, mother, Nonnie, and friend who will be deeply missed. Left to treasure their life together is her husband of 55 years, Jerry Allen Gunter; three daughters, Tonia Gunter VanDyke (Jason), Christie Gunter Dietrich (Ken), and Jerri Angela Gunter Mayfield (Baxter); and eleven grandchildren, Avery VanDyke Donelick (Bradley), Emma VanDyke Crowley (Kellen), Graycen VanDyke, Austin Dietrich (Nikki), Gunner Dietrich, Garrison Dietrich, Bryson Mayfield, Ella Mayfield, Evy Mayfield, Boone Mayfield, and Emery Mayfield. Many friends and family will miss her as well and are honored to have known her.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 26, 2025 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CarePartners Hospice and Palliative Care-McDowell.
