Glenn Robert Braswell

December 12, 1934 — February 12, 2026

Spruce Pine

Glenn Robert Braswell, 91, of Henredon Road in Spruce Pine, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville, NC.

Born on December 19,1934, in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Talmage and Zora Lee Gouge Braswell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Glenda Wilson; and his brothers, Frank, Donald, and Leonard Braswell.

Glenn was a member of Big Crabtree Baptist Church and later attended services at Altapass Church of God. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for eight years and retired following a dedicated career as a carpenter and tile setter.

One thing is certain — Glenn was truly one of a kind. He was more than a parent, grandparent, sibling, or friend; he was someone who made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. Though each person holds their own special memories, they share a common theme: whenever you needed Glenn, he was there. He loved his family and friends deeply, and every visit was sure to include laughter, love, a firm pat on the back, and, if you were lucky, a little good-natured teasing — his way of showing affection.

Many fall seasons found Glenn in the woods of Maine, a truck full of dogs and black bears on his mind. It was there he found peace and felt closest to God. He dearly loved his dogs — at times having as many as fifteen — and in his later years, he cherished his beloved cat, Tom.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters: Sherry Barrier (Gene); Samantha “Sam” Riddle; and Sara “Nikki” Lowery; his sister, Doris Ann Dover (Charles); his grandchildren: Ashley Laws, Bradley Wilson, Marie Barrier, John Barrier (Whitney), Regina Headrick (Chad), Trevan Riddle, Tyler Riddle (Ally), Dawson Lowery, and Riley Lowery; and his great-grandchildren: Blake and Brianna Laws, Dahlia and Davien Buchanan, Elizabeth Murphy, Liam and Maggie Barrier, and Mackenzie and Luke Headrick.

He is also survived by his loving partner, Pat Mann; his honorary grandchildren, Jesse and Daira Mann; his honorary great-grandchildren, Raylan and Evie; three special nephews, Butch Braswell, Paul and Tee Dover; numerous other nieces and nephews; and special friends, Burdette “Goat” Brinkley and José.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Altapass Church of God, with Rev. Cameron Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Interment will follow at Big Crabtree Baptist Church Cemetery, with military graveside honors provided by Sgt. E.L. Randolph Chapter #54 of the Disabled American Veterans.
