George Howard Austin

     George Howard Austin, 78, of Nebo, passed away Monday, October 3, 2022, at Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville.


     Mr. Austin was born in McDowell County, NC on May 31, 1944, to the late Frank Austin and Louise Biggerstaff Austin. He proudly served in the U.S. Army National Guard. Mr. Austin loved horses and other animals, especially hounds. Most of all, he was a loving father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.


     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Beauluh Lusk; and three brothers, James, Buddy, and Butch Austin.


     He is survived by a son, Geoffrey Austin (Margo Hale); a brother, Jackie Austin; and two very special grandchildren, whom he loved as his own, Haley and Allyson Boram.


     In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held. Interment will be at McDowell Memorial Park.


     The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to his brother, Jackie Austin; his best nephew ever, Billy Austin; and the staff at Deer Park Health & Rehabilitation for the care they provided.


     In lieu of flowers, one of Mr. Austin’s final wishes were that you spend time with your family.

My condolences to the Austin family..
I met Buster in Jr. High school. We played sports together in Jr.high & high school. I lost touch with him after that but have thought of him often through the years.
It is nice to know he had the love if his family.

I met Buster in the 1st grade at East Marion elementary school in 1951. Knew him all through jr. high and Marion High School. We were teammates on the MHS football team 1959-1962. My sincere condolences to his family.

Buster was a friend to me when I was the new kid at Marion High School. Then as the years roll by his son Jeff and my son Matt become friends as well.
Jeff, may your healing come with the love that surrounds you. We will hold you in our prayers.
