Gary Vinson Hughes

Gary Vinson Hughes, 72, of Old Fort, North Carolina, passed away Monday, March 20, 2023 at Mission Hospital in Asheville after a period of declining health.

He was born in Orange County California on January 18, 1951 to the late George "Vince" Hughes and Mary Elizabeth Seguin Ochoa.

Gary retired from Baxter Healthcare. He then worked in landscaping and took a job with Target for pure enjoyment. Gary was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and will be remembered for his deep faith. His personality was one you could never forget. He loved making others laugh, and he had a contagious laugh himself. Gary loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping and hiking in the summer. In his later years, he liked playing Xbox. He never met a stranger and enjoyed talking with friends. Above all, Gary was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marie Myers Hughes; daughter, Tammy Hughes Stackable (Paul Crisp); four grandchildren, Garrett Vincent Stackable, Alex Michael Stackable, Brandon Stackable (Megan), and Brittany Stackable; one great granddaughter, Evie Mae Stackable and twin great grandchildren on the way. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Allen; brother and sisters-in-law, Madge Hill and Walter and Kay Myers; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will hold a memorial service on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church with Pastor David Bradshaw officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.
