Gary Benny Thomas

On Saturday, November 20, 2021, Gary Benny Thomas, age 81, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away at his residence.

A native of McDowell County, he was born August 31, 1940 to the late Charles Hyatt Thomas and Dicie Lee Chrisawn Thomas.

Gary was a supervisor with the North Carolina Department of Corrections. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having served for 22 years. Gary enjoyed spending time at his barn woodworking. He had a passion for old Westerns and bluegrass music. He also loved just riding around. His grandchildren, particularly the little ones, held a very special place in his heart. He thoroughly enjoyed being active in their lives, especially in their sporting activities.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Christopher Eric Thomas; and a brother, Tony Thomas.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cora Lee Wilson Thomas; two children, Jennifer Thomas and Charles Wesley Thomas; six grandchildren, Sydney Jackson, Megan Thomas, Morgan Thomas, Avery Thomas, Riley Thomas, and Ramsey Thomas; six great grandchildren, Piper Morgan, Brennan Thomas, Bryson Thomas, Jamie Effler, Braylon Ledbetter, and Bayla Ledbetter; and one brother, Pat Thomas.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at the Wilson Family Cemetery.
