Frank Monroe Gibbs, born on December 16, 1941, in McDowell County, North Carolina, passed away on March 9, 2026, at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication and service that touched the lives of countless individuals in his community.
Frank was the proud owner and operator of Gibbs Hardware for over 46 years, where he not only provided essential services to the residents but also became a beloved figure within the community. His commitment to public service extended beyond his business; he served as a magistrate for over 25 years, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to justice and the well-being of others. Additionally, Frank was a devoted volunteer firefighter for the Old Fort Fire Department, always ready to lend a helping hand in times of need.
An educated man, Frank graduated high school and continued his studies for three years at NC State, laying a foundation for his successful career. Throughout his life, he also contributed to various economic boards, advocating for the betterment of his area.
Frank’s passions were not confined to his professional endeavors. He had a profound love for music, sharing joyous moments with his son, Josh. He also relished the process of drafting and designing, showcasing his creativity and ingenuity. Furthermore, as a member of the Masonic Lodge, Frank exemplified values of fellowship, charity, and integrity.
Family meant everything to Frank. He cherished his time spent as a grandfather and enjoyed nurturing his relationships with loved ones. He is survived by his son, Josh Gibbs (Margaret), and daughters Kathleen and Caroline Gibbs. Frank's warmth and kindness will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ava Allison Gibbs; his parents, Ralph Alexander Gibbs and Christina McDaniel Gibbs; and his siblings, Dan Gibbs, Johnsie Bartlett, and Ailene Martin. Each of them played a meaningful role in his life, and their memories will continue to resonate with his family and friends.
A memorial service to honor Frank's life will take place on March 21, 2026, at Beam Celebration Center starting at 3:00 PM . A visitation will follow the service at the Beam Celebration Center.
Frank Monroe Gibbs leaves behind not just a legacy of a successful career, but a testament to his character—one marked by service, love for his family, and a passion for helping others. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
