Frances Louise Lawing Franklin

Frances Louise Lawing Franklin, 98, of Marion, passed away Sunday morning, December 31, 2023 at Mountain Ridge Health and Rehab.

A native of McDowell County, she was born July 17, 1925 to the late Horace Fred Lawing and Carrie Ellen Morgan Lawing.

She was a faithful member of Sugar Hill Baptist Church and a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She assisted her husband with rental properties, farming cattle, and operating Franklin’s General Store. She also enjoyed knitting, gardening, and canning.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Ernest Franklin; and one son, Neil Franklin.

She is survived by two sons, Perry Franklin (Debra) and Freddie Franklin (Carla); daughter-in-law, Marie Franklin; seven grandchildren, Tess Porter (Dirk), Jody Franklin (Holly), Adam Franklin, Brad Franklin, Christy Franklin, Kyle Franklin (Allie) and Travis Franklin; six great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Sugar Hill Baptist Church with Revs. Mark Lawing and Michael Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
