Faye Leone Watkins, a cherished member of her community and a devoted family matriarch, passed away peacefully at her residence on August 21, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on July 30, 1931, in Mitchell County, North Carolina.
A very active member of the Parkers Chapel Baptist Church, Faye was known for her warm spirit and welcoming demeanor. She embraced her roles as a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother with grace and dedication. Married to Dillard Watkins for an incredible 76 years, their union was a testament to love and partnership.
Faye's family was her pride and joy. She is survived by her sons, Danny Watkins and wife Linda Kay, Doug Watkins and wife Shirllene, and Steve Watkins and wife Rebecca. Her daughter, Darlene Anderson and husband Billy, also survives her. Faye leaves behind sisters Juanita Waycaster and Carrie Watkins, as well as her beloved grandchildren Jamie Watkins and Heather, Tracy Quickel and Jason, Travis Watkins and Erin, Hillary Watkins and Matt Aycock, Chris Watkins, Andrew Watkins and Crystal, Crystal Ledbetter and Alan, and Cheryl Smith and Nathan. She was also a proud grandmother to thirteen great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life.
Faye's interests included needlepoint crafts, making aprons, and cooking, particularly during family gatherings such as Christmas, where her culinary skills were truly a highlight. She had a passion for photography and enjoyed working in her flower gardens, nurturing the beauty around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesly and Elizabeth Briggs Stevens, and her siblings: Lawerence Stevens, Edith Blevins, Priscilla Laws, Ruth Briggs, and Junior Stevens. Their memories will forever remain a part of her lasting legacy.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 2:00 pm at McDowell Memorial Park in Marion, North Carolina with Reverend David Watkins officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather as they celebrate Faye's remarkable life and the indelible impact she made on all those who had the privilege to know her.
