Eva Maria Korfmann Burgess

Eva Maria Korfmann Burgess, 81, of Marion, passed away Friday, October 30, 2026 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Born on April 24, 1945, Eva graduated high school in her home country of Germany and later completed a GED in America. She proudly earned her citizenship in the United States in 1986. Eva enjoyed time spent outdoors. Flowers, hiking, and the Blue Ridge Mountains all brought her great joy. She especially loved the change of the seasons, particularly Autumn in her beloved mountains. She will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, MSG William “Bill” Joseph Burgess, Jr. (Ret.).

Those left to cherish her memory are her three children, Eva Smith (Todd), Mike Burgess, and Mark Burgess; three grandchildren, Aserria, Deserae, and William; and one great-grandchild, Avery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 4, 2026 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service.

A service in celebration of Eva’s life will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.
