Estalene Hughes Hollifield passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026 at Rose Hill Retirement Community with her loving family by her side.
Born in Mitchell County, North Carolina in 1932, she was the last surviving of ten children born to Will and Emma Davis Hughes.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Willard Hollifield, Jr. in 1997, her son-in-law, Kit Alverson in 2021, and by her nine siblings and other extended family members.
She loved and cared for her family, especially her beloved special daughter, Elizabeth Ann. Estalene was a superb cook and loved to grow her own vegetables and prepared special meals with the fruit of her labor. Mom loved flowers and plants in general and was happiest when she was outside tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. Accomplished in the needle arts, she was skilled in embroidery, candle wicking, and quilting, and loved to show others her work.
A very hard worker, Estalene worked at American Thread Company for 30 years in addition to all her homemaker and caretaker duties. A longtime member of Ashworth Road Baptist Church, Estalene was very active in the church until her health began to decline. She was a woman of grace and compassion who would help anyone in need.
She is survived by her three children, Helen Alverson of Marion, Tommy Hollifield (Crystal Rose) of Marion, and Elizabeth Ann Hollifield of Marion; six grandchildren, Scott Alverson (Christine), Christy Beaver, Misty Davis (Kevin), Randy Hollifield, Tonya Edwards, and Travis Hollifield (Marley); nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and twenty-seven nieces and nephews.
Receiving of friends will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Beam Funeral Service with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Greg Hollifield officiating. Estalene will be laid to rest at McDowell Memorial Park beside her husband Willard.
Flowers are appreciated, or donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
