Emmett Wayne Buchanan

     Emmett Wayne Buchanan, 78, of Valdese, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Amorem Hospice in Hudson.

     Mr. Buchanan was born in McDowell County, North Carolina on November 11, 1943 to the late Cliffton Buchanan and Anne Mae Woody Buchanan. He was married to Christine Henson Buchanan and was a member of Friendly Freewill Baptist Church. He was a career truck driver and enjoyed collecting things for leisure. He will be greatly missed.

     In addition to his parents, Mr. Buchanan was preceded in death by a daughter, Revonda Johnson; a son, Randall Cook; two grandchildren, Brittney Cook and Noah Dowell; and two brothers, Kenneth Buchanan and Herman Buchanan.

     Survivors include his wife, Christine Henson Buchanan; five children, Robin Baker (Stanley), Mike Cook, LaVonne Buchanan, Marilyn Avatefi (John), and Mary Dowell; a son in law, Randy Johnson; five sisters, Reva Buchanan, Dora Faye Lewis, Amy Buchanan, Lula Owens (Joe), and Donna Huffman (Danny); two brothers, Vernon Buchanan (Wanda) and Cliffton Buchanan (Cindy); fifteen grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.

     A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. Rev. Paul Grindstaff and Rev. Ernie Cable will officiate and Rev. Randy Johnson will assist. Burial will follow at Murphy’s Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
